Places kitties don't belong

****
Places kitties should not venture but dare to go HMMMMMM let me see if your Stumpy that would be, the fridge, the pantry cupboard, the shower stall, mom's sock drawer oh and the DRYER!!!!!
We just learned a very expensive and scary lesson, if you open it he will come, so you better check things twice wait make that three times before you shut all doors and walk away.
Poor wee Stumps had a very traumatizing experience last night one that I'm sure he will not forget in a long time.
Hubby was throwing his laundry into the dryer when I called him to another room he was going to show me his new shirt he just bought. He walked away leaving the dryer door open and came to talk to me. Conversation over he went back to his laundry throwing the rest of his wet cloths in........
(Stumpy)~Oh this is where it gets very sad and way scary~ Not knowing Stumpy had decided the dryer was a great place to play hide and seek he shut the door turned on the dryer and walked away.
(Spanky)~ Drama, Drama, Drama thats all it is with that brother of mine~So hubby saunters back to the bedroom to continue our conversation. Meanwhile I'm hearing a clunk, clunk coming from the dryer sounds like someone threw a shoe in there, but not thinking much about it since the dryer is old and makes funny noises we continue to talk for about 3 minutes. Hubby decides to go check things out because the noise isn't letting up.

Thats when I hear Deb Stumpy is in the dryer and I'm thinking no he can't be cause it was just running, what do you mean he is in the dryer. Then it dawns on me just what he is saying OMG STUMPY IS IN THE DRYER....... Hubby rushes the poor wee guy in to me and all I can see is his once pale pink nose is now glowing red like Rudolf the red nose raindeer and the rim of his eyes are beet red and he is having trouble breathing. OMG he is going to die......I call the vet as fast as I can try explaining this emergency without coming across as the worst kitty owner out there, ya my cat was in the dryer for about 3 minutes, no you don't understand it was running for the said 3 minutes, you know fluff and fold kind of running.

(Spanky) Ye gads if I got to hear this story one more time........This kind of gets the receptionist attention, okay yes bring him right in. Oh you would think this is where things would get better for poor Stumps nope we are not done traumatizing the wee guy just yet. We stuff kitty in his carrier and speed ahead to the vets, pulling into the parking lot a van pulls out in front of us hubby has to slam on the brakes and the carrier in the back with our precious kitty flies of the seat and does a face plant on the floor kitty and all. So not only has Stumpy been tumbled Dried we can add being sent air born from his safe haven at mock speed.

Finally we get him in the clinic where he is assessed by the vet turns out all his vitals are normal- Good, his temperature is back to normal-Good and she can feel no broken bones-Good. When she puts him on the floor to see him walk he walks with happy tail straight up in the air towrads the open garbage to see what trouble he can find waiting in there-Good!!! Looks like he is back to bad self.
She gives him an ejection of pain medication cause he is gonna feel this for sure and gives him some fluids under the skin and sends him home with a one lucky kitty award. We had to keep an close eye on him because sometimes it takes a while for internal injuries to show up.

I knew things where back to normal when I found this first thing in the morning. Silly Spanky doesn't know better you run when Mom comes. I walked into the laundry room where the litter box and extra litter is kept Stumpy was standing on top of the knocked over litter bucket but as soon as he saw me he high tailed it out of there as fast as he could leaving Spanky to take the blame. By the time I got my camera Stumpy was long gone and well lets just say Spanky isn't the brightest bulb in the box so he just hangs around with a what it was like this when I got here look on his face.
So that was my night how was yours. I know I sound kind of glib about this whole could have been very tragic tale but trust me my warped humor is only a mask, If I allow myself to play the what if game I will drive myself mad. I am so grateful that this story had a happy ending though I'm sure Stumpy is now only playing with 7 lives. Both Hubby and I realized just how much we care about this wee guy and would be devastated if things had turned out differently.
Until Next time hugs
Deborah

OMGosh!!! What a harrowing experience for poor stumpy! That story just made my stomach turn inside out reading it...oh, poor Stumpy! I sure hope he stays out of dryers from now on! Oh, that just makes me sick inside! I can only imagine how you felt! I fell bad for Stumpy AND you and hubby!

I'm so relieved to hear he is doing much better. You are NOT the worst kitty owner...you got him IMMEDIATE attention as soon as you could comprehend what was going on to the poor kitty. You deserve a pat on the back for helping him out!

Wow! Yep, I'd say he has lost two of his nine lives for sure. He was probably too shocked to howl or scream in that dryer. Hopefully he was wrapped up in some clothing while he tumbled.

My cat Jersey lost a few lives when she was a kitten. I remember we had just brought her home ~ only been a day or two. She wandered into the kitchen and came up behind me while I was opening the oven door. Luckily I was just warming something and the oven was only luke warm. She pounced and jumped right up and landed on the open oven door! I picked her up in a milla-second and put her right into the kitchen sink and ran cold water on her paws. She was fine luckily. Scared me to death though.

Cats are crazy sometimes. Karen

I'm glad he's ok Deb - they're pretty resilient. When I called my vet in a total panic and told him my two year old had just shellaced the cat he couldn't stop laughing. I was traumatized too , and that cat's been a whack job ever since.
All the cats AND my kid liked climbing into the dryer - I checked religiously lol.

Oh my gosh my heart was pounding as I read this! Thank the Lord that he is ok! I feel so attached to these two having folowed your posts about them from kittenhood. I am so glad that everything worked out alright. No doubt you and your husband were scared-thank goodness it ended happily!

Blessings,

Kim

OMG that poor cat. Guess I'm a little warped because I had to chuckle while reading your story. I think all of us with cats in the family have had them get into something. Glad he's ok.

OH MY GOODNESS LOL poor thing. Don't you just love those silly curious cats! Don't feel bad, lol just between you and me, when I was very little I put my brother in the dryer. I told him it was a spaceship. :O

I am so glad he is ok. Thanks for sharing.

Oh no! That was a scary story. I have an EX-husband who once did the same thing (notice I say EX - lol) but luckily it was only a minute and my Mittens was fine. My Gracie likes to jump in but I always check the laundry to make sure there's no one in there!

oh my gosh. thank goodness your kitty is ok. I have often worried about this happening with my little boy cat that gets up to and into all sorts of mischief. From this story I will always be extra careful now. Hugs, Catherine xx

So glad Stumpy's story had a happy ending. I'm sure he can look back and laugh about it now. I almost did the same thing a few days ago. I had dry laundry in the dryer and I was going to run it on "touch up" before folding. Turned on the dryer and it revolved once or twice. I heard a clunk and a "Yeow", opened the door and out popped one of our cats, Shadow, looking quite disgruntled. Luckily I heard her right away and all was well. I have now warned the family not to leave the dryer door open and ALWAYS check before running it. Yikes!
